Google’s Global Approach to Sustainable Operations

    Best of Greenbuild Webcast Series

1 hour of LEED Specific O+M
    1 AIA LU/HSW Credit Hour

This is a self-reporting series.  You will receive a certificate of attendance yet you need to self-report your own continuing education credits to GBCI, AIA, etc.

Now is your chance to see some of the top-notch sessions that were recorded at 2015 Greenbuild!

Sustainable Pursuit (SP) has been the cornerstone for Google’s sustainable operations practices since 2011. The program supports 70+ offices in 40+ countries with anywhere from 25 to 3,500 occupants. Facilitating a program that can be utilized by office tenants with diverse cultural foundations, sustainability acumen, and approaches to human health is no small feat. Few sustainable operations programs for tenant operations, and fewer that share Google’s priority on health, exist. SP builds on LEEDv3 EB: O&M to implement Google’s vision of maintaining excellent user experience, sustainability and health. Google offices are predominantly tenant spaces and with varying control. The challenges of each office are vast and are regionally unique. For example, assessing IAQ (EBOM EQpc68) requires securing the correct tests and experienced technicians; commissioning submeter systems (EBOM EAp1, EAc3.2) uncovers legacy systems incompatibilities; and, conducting waste audits (EBOM MRp2, MRc6, MRc7) requires Google to navigate numerous waste management options. Throughout its life SP has uncovered numerous lessons learned and innovative solutions. During this presentation, Google’s Operations [e]Team regional office leads will discuss how they leverage their expertise in IEQ, energy management, and waste diversion for unique office situations across the globe.

    Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participants will be able to utilize a sustainable operations program framework based on LEED 2009 for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance for leased office spaces in multiple countries.

Upon completion, participants will be able to articulate the importance of retrocommissioning submeter systems in office spaces for energy management leveraging the EBOM requirements of EAp1 and EAc3.2.

Upon completion, participants will be able to articulate the challenges of implementing waste diversion best practices in the U.S., Europe and Asia leveraging the EBOM requirements of MRp2 and MRc6 through 7.

Upon completion, participants will be able to advocate for the inclusion of health initiatives in their corporate sustainability programs leveraging the EBOM pilot requirements of EQpc68.

Evolution of Green Building Goal Setting for Corporations

    Best of Greenbuild Webcast Series

1 hour of LEED Specific BD+C and 1 AIA LU/HSW Credit

Why do multinational corporations have green building goals that traverse their global building portfolios? Increasingly, companies aspire to support green building programs but are unsure how to begin. The session discusses initial goal-setting drivers, methodologies and continual evolution for green building program goals from the perspective of three very different international corporations. They will discuss their motivations and success in executing against goals for LEED Interior Design and Construction; and LEED Building Design and Construction; obstacles that had to be overcome when setting green building goals; and benefits they have seen from integrating LEED into building process. With a focus on Energy and Water Conservation, specifically meeting EAP2, EAC2 (BD&C) / EAc1(ID&C), and WEC1-3 this presentation will emphasize the importance of prioritizing and budgeting a company’s green building objectives so that green building goals can be met achieved within a business context. The material presented is derived from real world case histories and green building facilities experiences gathered by green building experts representing four companies, Starbucks, Intel, Colgate Palmolive and CH2M HILL, which are considered leaders in global green building design. The last discussion will be focused on the evolution of these goals.

    Learning Objectives:

Define drivers for establishing and achieving corporate green building goals, and learn strategies for “selling” green building benefits internally for LEED ID&C and BD&C

Discuss how green building goals are set for Energy and Water Conservation impacting EAP2/C2 and Water Efficiency Credits 1-3; illustrating different successful methodology.

Articulate the benefit to the corporations emphasizing the importance of prioritizing/budgeting a company’s green building objectives so that meeting or exceeding credit requirements in energy and water usage can be met in a business context.

How does LEED help inform what the future is going to look like?

    Presenters:

    • Presenter: Taimur BurkiGlobal Green Building Program Manager at Intel CorporationChandler, Arizona

This session is approved for 1 hour of LEED Specific BD+C GBCI hours and 1 AIA LU/HSW credit hour.
